Essay
I guess what I’m trying to say is like everybody, I love innovation and new ideas and new wonderful technologies that make our lives easier. I like drugs as much as the next guy if you want to look at it that way. But I’m talking about a world where our drugs and innovation are simply clean ecologically and do not produce too much garbage.
Take a bicycle for example. The amount of petroleum products necessary to keep a bike moving is pretty negligible. You should probably oil your chain or we could all switch over to those Kevlar belts which seem even quieter and work really well for a long time. or you can use paraffin wax or some other biodegradable material and we’d be okay. If it wasn’t about money, we wouldn’t need to buy more tires and we can just invent some kind of unbelievably long lasting, life of the bike type tires which have a fast enough roll out to keep people happy. And after that, if we stuck with steel, we could just melt them down and make them into something else if we didn’t want him anymore.
Bikes are just great in that even when they die, they don’t ever really have to die. They can just become something else.
Can you make a windmill out of a bicycle wheel? Yes you can.
Can you make an electric generator out of a bicycle? Yes you can.
Can you make a grain grinder or an electrical tool out of a bicycle? Yes you can.
Yes you can. Yes you can. Yes you can.
Of course we can. We can do anything we want.
Can we make enough electricity to run a computer with a bike? You didn’t even have to ask, did you? Of course, we can.
Can we power a boat with a bicycle?
What is the maximum amount of power possible by bicycle?
Accordingto wiki: Maximum sustained power levels during one hour range from about 200 W (NASA experimental group of “healthy men”) to 500 W (men’s world hour record)
So if I use my current model that my apartment uses between two and four kilowatts a day, it is not practical to assume that I could run all of my electrical needs by bicycle. At best and this would be an enormous amount of work, I could only cover about 5% to 10:00 of my total needs.
But that’s what wind is for! And we have a perpetual 16 km an hour of wind flowing through Pinsk which is not very obstructed by mountains, and that is 160% of what is needed to turn a five kilowatt wind generator that’s about a nice size to drop on the roof of my apartment. But it’s nice to know that in a pinch, I could kick in an extra 200 Watts which would be enough to charge my telephone or a laptop.
I’m not going to Google this but what would life be like if the only way to watch porn would be to generate the electricity yourself with a bike generator? I wonder what pornography would look like if that was the case. I leave that to your own imagination.
