Utopian literature: How we deal with the money deal

Okay, first of all it was not as shocking as you might think. Yes, there was that consciousness moment that was indeed shocking. Suicides of global leaders simply to filled with fear at what one unoccupied moment of their life would do to them. If suddenly all the mistakes were mounted one on top of the other, what human being could tolerate the site? Indeed, that was a gut punch to a lot of people. But that the movement was in motion was now absolutely clear. There weren’t going to be any old dinosaurs standing in the road telling us we owed them our lives anymore.

And with the mutual agreement of, please, no Christianity, only common sense talk and good solid shared information, people grudgingly agreed that this was what was going to be. The deal was exactly like it was described specifically for government people in one of the last moments of the earlier version of the planet Earth. It simply put checks in everyone’s hands. It was a good solid check for the situation. The ledger was universally wiped clean. No one owed anyone anything. The check was really quite sufficient for food and extra necessities. Basic needs we’re going to be met simply but effectively. A good solid costume, perfect for the weather that would wear for a very long time extremely comfortably. If that’s all you want and everyone helps, you’d be surprised at the clothing you get.

It actually wasn’t a check. It was a card. But it wasn’t really a card. It was originally a number. But then the number seemed kind of harsh and it was replaced by the person’s name. In those cases where there were several people with the same name everyone agreed to accept a number with no particular hierarchy. In any case, the idea was they would go get some food and use their money at the checkout that was in the account. However, even this became superfluous because everyone knew everyone’s name in a very short period of time. You didn’t even need to speak. In fact just the glance at what they had picked up was enough to register it visually. In fact people could just take whatever they wanted and go home and there was no bureaucracy. We of course only ask to be reasonable in your needs. We understand mania but still, a little class goes a long way.

At first the work seemed difficult to get into for everyone. In the urban centers, everyone loved the idea of no internal combustion engines ever. With modern sanitation with an eye towards making use of the organic materials, everyone was going organic vegans so it is very compostable shit, And they said to work planning out and working their gardens. And it was a grand time. Very lively outside. Lots of children playing. The concept of the new school had not quite been worked out so education was what it was like growing up in the community around you. Strange how that worked for thousands and thousands of years but suddenly became absurd under the national fascist movement. Thank God they are gone. I spit at the thought.

But then what? That ended up being the real good question. The fact that alcohol or meat was not a part of what would be obviously a daily celebration of life, sort of meant that you had to pay attention to the celebrating part. It’s an interesting concept but I guess the idea is just doing things well. Our people, heck, we really like to do things well. And if that means putting together spontaneous theater or sporting events, well you just never know what’s going to happen in town and most probably, everybody is going to get to participate a little bit. It just works out that way.

They teach that by the way. People teach their children this. It’s called the anything game. Usually it’s a sports game that starts out with one sport but then immediately goes into another sport and then another. You have to remember the order that you play and sometimes it’s confusing when the game is now a different sport but you were winning in the old one. Gosh, games for fun. But it is about creativity and if no one is saying you are wrong for pleasing yourself and your senses, again, you have to imagine what the parties looked like.

They asked the question about electricity. They understood that it was about wind and solar and that everything that could collect and either be made use of as a gardening space should definitely be energy collection. Agreed. But how much electricity could we use? Are we talking about the idea of an enchanted Paris, completely in lights and beautiful in the rain? The solution was found in simply passively charging during the day and allowing a slow discharge at night. It was extended daylight. It meant that as the sun was going down the lights would come on and they were mesmerizing.

Everybody wanted to be a musician. Everybody wanted to sculpt. Everybody wanted to be a little bit of an architect. Everyone wanted to study the possibility. If we could just do this in this corner, what do you think would that make things better. And then they would go and make their designs as perfectly as they could. They needed to convince people that it was good to use their resources to make this thing. And usually that was enough to stop the idea. But everyone agreed that planning additions were fine and then they would just get some wood and build the damn shelf.

The point was this was indeed Utopia. It was life without stress. Life without a vigorish. No taxes. No laws. Just righteous people, or this is how they imagined themselves quite freely. It seems human beings love to put on airs. They love to feel superior. And in this wonderful moment there was indeed a common enemy. Everyone who built the nightmare that came before them was now a hated scar that no one would ever see the end of in their lifetimes. But yet we could try. And indeed, the effort is something to do. And we like doing things well. We really enjoy doing things beautifully.

So yes, we can be a little snooty. Yes, we can be judgmental. Yes, we are lazy enough that when someone asks for our help, we can ask them why they are bothering to do something that requires help. There is not enough stress to be motivated by something truly important on a moment’s notice. If the guy wanted to build a still, we could know months in advance and plan the entire episode. Nobody needed any excitement about these sorts of things.

But I believe we really care. I do believe that in a true moment of difficulty, if there should be an injury in the fields or in the games, that everything stops. They’re not really so interested in the game as if the person is okay and they have to at least ask for the game to carry on without them. It’s only civil. But we do care. If this happens during a ball game, nobody cares that the ball game stops. The person is more important. Life is very important. Not being in too much pain is really important. We believe in this. Why not?

Ah, but we are not weak. We are not weak people. We don’t really drink so much. We have some beer and wine drinkers and, sure, we have some connoisseurs who love to dip deeply into the spirits. So be it on your current stock 10,000 years of evolution as a drunk overnight. Most people prefer herbal remedies. We grow a lot of marijuana and mushrooms, and most people prefer an evening of food and nice conversation and perhaps some music and dancing. Why not? Why not have a nice time?

So I’d love to show you around my little town. It’s an excellent place. We have everything here. We make everything ourselves. Our manufacturing sector is absolutely first class. We have great builders and glass makers, we have the finest electrical engineers. Simply put, everybody learns these skills and some people are really good at them and go to work with the collective. And we do field great teams universally. Go glass!

If anything, the big political argument is whether we wish to go all in for indoor agriculture of a larger scale for winter times. It seems that we do have plenty of room for individual indoor grows and we have serviceable enough community gardens where nothing grand was needed. But there was a measure to actually build a giant building with light sufficient to grow food during the winter. It was a matter of expense and resources and all of this pitted against its usefulness and whether the community would want to come. Also taking into account how long the structure was planned until it became garbage. That is one of the great things stopping building projects of any size. The regret ahead that eventually everything we put together makes tremendous amounts of garbage. Hence, it has been a political argument and nothing more for quite some time.

My name is Arthur. My father is G. So, as an original publisher in the old school information distribution business, he came to the conclusion that we needed a journal here in Utopia. I argued. I told him that this business of currying public favor or pushing political interests was causing problems. Nobody wants anyone to cause problems because people like to figure things out for themselves. He said that perhaps it was our job to provide all the information for those who felt they needed to know about it. And I was assured that we weren’t going to play with our facts to get people to read us more. This was supposed to be a serious operation.

So I have some stories and I will tell you a little bit about our enclave of 10,000 people. Not a very big place really. An interesting place. I’m sure back in the day, you needed millions and millions of people to generate real excitement somewhere. I tell you, when everybody contributes, 10,000 is plenty. Any number is plenty if everyone is playing for real. And yeah, we have great parties. If you like to dance. If you like to play games. If you like to sit and ponder the nature of the universe. If you just want to look at a really beautiful person sitting across the table from you and let your metabolism tell you everything you need to know. I don’t know why but it never gets old. That’s the crazy thing, when everyone is free to have an imagination, it’s almost impossible for anything to get old.

By the way, I am declared. This means I’m not having any children. I made this choice freely. My father was a little upset. That’s okay. I don’t really need to see myself come back again. I’m okay with this. Really, I’m okay with this. We all understand what the future holds and what kind of emotions and things we might experience along the way. We are all professional. We all do a good job. I’ve decided I’m okay without it. Maybe I like to feel a little free. I’m just saying this so you know and if you find me in the clubs in the evening, be sure and let me know all your stories. I can’t wait to hear all of your stories.
